Welcome to the Official Website of the Arizona Psychiatric Society!

The idea of having a dedicated website for the society is quite new and this is our first attempt at creating a webspace for our members and the public.

We envision to make this website a primary locale on the Internet for our members; a place where they can get the news and updates on whats going on in the field of psychiatry, renew their membership and update their personal and professional information, and interact with their peers via the Forum section. Prospective members can learn about the importance and benefits to become a member and also access an online application form.

For the general public, the resources section contains useful information on various mental health related topics as well as links to different organizations and entities. Those looking for a local psychiatrist will benefit from our "Find an Arizona Psychiatrist' section; we'd make every effort to keep this section current and updated.

In the Classifieds section, providers, recruiters, and businesses involved in the field of mental health should be able to advertise their services and products.

Again, welcome to the website of the Arizona Psychiatric Society. We hope that you find it informative. Please visit us frequently and make this one of your "must visit" online destination. Bookmark this website to make a return trip to us easier.

Best wishes,

The Arizona Psychiatric Society Executive Council

A recent study indicates that elderly patients who take Lithium for bipolar disorder are less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease.

Patients with bipolar disorder have a higher risk for developing dementia, but researchers at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, found that chronic lithium therapy could reduce the rate of the condition to a level similar to that for the general population. They noted that "Lithium inhibits glycogen synthase kinase-3, a key enzyme in the metabolism of .....
